The future of parcel delivery
Designed and developed a Blockchain PoC platform for package delivery, based on smart Solidity contracts and deployed to the Aurora (NEAR) network.
The challenge ️
One of the most prominent Croatian startups got in touch with Locastic to explore the option of developing a Proof of Concept on the Blockchain platform that provides package delivery in a matter of hours, and it’s based on the carpooling model – using the existing transportation resources.
Figuring out the use case
Let’s say that you are travelling alone from A-city to B-city with your car. You don’t want to use carpooling services because, you know, no one enjoys chatting with strangers for a few hours. But, you wouldn’t really mind making the most out of space left in your trunk and reducing the transportation costs – and that’s where TheGepek comes into place!
We got in touch with Locastic to develop the PoC and MVP of our product, a Blockchain-based carpooling platform. We wanted to be the first-ever carpooling platform based on Blockchain technology. For this, we needed a team with a proven record in building MVPs and blockchain products, and obviously - Locastic was a great match.

Why Blockchain technology?
The client wanted to use technology of the future that offers new ways to develop cutting-edge innovations, shipment security, customer rewards, package security and ensure the global presence of TheGepek in the market through Blockchain. Furthermore, smart contracts provided a cheaper, faster, more transparent and more secure platform, which was exactly our client’s goal with this endeavour.
How does TheGepek work?
After TheGepek users open the application, they can view packages that are currently waiting to be delivered, or choose the option to submit the package for future delivery. Once they log in with their smart wallet, that will simulate creating their user profile and allow interaction with the app.
Convenient
The first step in the journey is wallet connection. Once your crypto wallet is connected user can send package or take the package delivery without being obligated to sign up or create an account.
Secure, without any mediators
Smart contracts allowed us to eliminate the need for building a central entity. Once conditions from the contract are met, the code will execute under any circumstances – when the package is delivered and both parties confirm the deal, the reward will be transferred to the deliverer’s address.
One interface to rule them all
The final piece was putting it all together – a central app to communicate with the smart contract, send the package, deliver the package, manage the package and finally, mark the delivery as finished so that deliverer can eventually be paid out.

Soon: The GPP token of appreciation
One of the neat features in the development process is the so called – token of appreciation. Every driver who delivers a package, apart from being paid in EUR, USD or similar currency, will receive a GPP token as an additional reward for each confirmed delivery.
The GPP token will have its equivalent in FIAT currency, enabling the user to exchange it for money and withdraw it to one of the partner exchange offices or their private wallet.
Where are we now?
After the PoC has passed the market test with flying colours, TheGepek team has received funding from NEAR Protocol and are currently in the process of raising additional investments so they can proceed with developing the full version of their web3 platform.
